Ben Roethlisberger turned in another really good year for the Pittsburgh Steelers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Friday 6 January 2012 at 1:15 am

29-year old QB Ben Roethlisberger turned in another fine year despite being dogged with nagging injuries as the Steelers were 11-4 in his starts.  Roethlisberger played in 15 games (all starts) for the Steelers this year and he completed 324 of 513 passes (63.2%) for 4,077 yards with 21 TD passes and 14 INTs (90.1 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 31 times for 70 yards (2.3 ypc) this year.  He has now played in 114 games (113 starts) in his career with the Steelers and he has completed 2,090 of 3,313 passes (63.1%) for 26,579 yards with 165 TD passes and 100 INTs (92.1 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 292 times for 944 yards (3.2 ypc) with 14 TD runs in his NFL career so far.  Roethlisberger is now 80-33 (70.8%) as a starting QB during the regular season in his career with the Steelers.

37-year old QB Charlie Batch has proven to be a solid backup QB in his time with the Steelers.  They won his only start this year.  Batch played in 4 games (1 start) for the Steelers this year and he completed 15 of 24 passes (62.5%) for 208 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT (72.9 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 3 times for -2 yards (-0.7 ypc) this year.  Batch has now played in 79 games (53 starts) in his NFL career so far and he has completed 863 of 1,534 passes (56.3%) for 10,610 yards with 60 TD passes and 48 INTs (77.8 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 172 times for 637 yards (3.7 ypc) with 6 TD runs so far in his NFL career.  Batch is 24-29 (45.3%) as a starting QB during the regular season in his NFL career.

Heath Miller is wasting away in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Tuesday 6 December 2011 at 7:16 pm

29-year old TE Heath Miller would be so much better on a team that used the TE in the passing game more.  He has a great set of hands and he gets open.  Steelers’ QBs have completed 41 of 57 passes (71.9%) thrown in Heath Miller’s direction so far this year.  He has caught 41 passes for 497 yards (12.1 avg) with 2 TD grabs so far this year for the Steelers.  Miller has now played in 104 games in his first 7 years with the Steelers and he has caught 327 passes for 3,730 yards (11.4 avg) with 31 TD grabs so far in his career.

Antonio Brown has been outstanding for the Pittsburgh Steelers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Thursday 1 December 2011 at 4:32 am

23-year old WR Antonio Browns has been a very busy man for the Steelers this year.  He has played in 11 games for the Steelers so far this year and he has caught 48 passes for 707 yards (14.7 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Brown also has carried the ball 5 times for 24 yards (4.8 ypc) so far this year.  Brown doesn’t stop there either.  He has returned 19 kickoffs for 528 yards (27.8 avg) and 24 punts for 265 yards (11.0 avg) so far this year.  Brown has touched the ball 96 times overall for the Steelers and he has 1,524 yards (15.9 yards per touch).  He is also averaging 138.5 all-purpose yards this year for the Steelers!

Ben Roethlisberger is playing solid football for the Pittsburgh Steelers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports,Steppin Up by admin on Thursday 24 November 2011 at 2:56 am

29-year old QB Ben Roethlisberger is going to give it a go with a broken right thumb.  He won’t be able to take snaps from under the center, so he will be lining up in the shotgun against the Chiefs this weekend.  Charlie Batch better be ready in case he’s needed.  Roethlisberger has played in 10 games for the Steelers so far this year and he has completed 224 of 354 passes (63.3%) for 2,877 yards with 16 TD passes and 9 INTs (93.2 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 26 times for 62 yards (2.4 ypc) so far this year.  The Steelers better hope that Roethlisberger can play effectively with his injury, because they are not good enough to get to the playoffs without him.

Mike Tomlin keeps the Pittsburgh Steelers on the right path

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Tuesday 8 November 2011 at 1:56 pm

39-year old head coach Mike Tomlin continues to keep the Steelers on the right path.  The Steelers are now 6-3 on the season, despite suffering a lot of key injuries on defense this year.  The Steelers are now 49-24 (67.1%) during the regular season in Tomlin’s first six years with the Steelers.  Tomlin’s team always seems to be well prepared and he does a pretty solid job of motivating his team.  The Steelers’ team is built around Tomlin’s tough guy image and I don’t see that changing any time soon.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are getting good production in the return game this year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Saturday 5 November 2011 at 7:53 pm

WR Antonio Brown has been doing most of the work on kickoff and punt returns for the Steelers this year.  Brown has returned 15 kickoffs for 434 yards (28.9 avg) and 19 punts for 229 yards (12.1 avg) so far this year for the Steelers.  RB Isaac Redman (1 kickoff return for 18 yards) and WR Emmanuel Sanders (3 punt returns for 22 yards) have also pitched in for the Steelers this year in the return game.  The Steelers have returned 16 kickoffs for 452 yards (28.3 avg) and 22 punts for 251 yards (11.4 avg) so far this year, often setting up the offense with solid starting field position.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a solid bunch at WR

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Thursday 27 October 2011 at 7:14 pm

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a very talented group of WRs.  It all starts with the speedster Mike Wallace.  He has caught 36 passes for 730 yards (20.3 avg) with 5 TD grabs already this year.  A lot of his TDs are long ones.  Antonio Brown is another speedster on the Steelers but he’s a tad inconsistent.  Brown has caught 25 passes for 364 yards (14.6 avg) so far this year.  The Steelers are starting to phase out Hines Ward.  Ward has caught 26 passes for 258 yards (9.9 avg) with 2 TD grabs this year.  Emmanuel Sanders, despite not being used a whole lot, has been productive.  He has caught 13 passes for 173 yards (13.3 avg) with 2 TD grabs so far this year.  The Steelers need this quartet to keep playing well.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are amping up the running game as of late

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Saturday 22 October 2011 at 6:34 pm

The Steelers have amped up the running game lately and that has taken a lot of pressure off of Ben Roethlisberger.  Rashard Mendenhall is leading the way for the Steelers on the ground so far this year.  He has played in five games for the Steelers in 2011 and he has carried the ball 81 times for 319 yards (3.9 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  Mendenhall has also caught 5 passes for 21 yards (4.2 avg) this year.  Isaac Redman has played in all six games for the Steelers in 2011 and he has carried the ball 41 times for 178 yards (4.3 ypc) with 1 TD run and he has also caught 6 passes for 32 yards (5.3 avg).  Jonathan Dwyer has been super impressive when he has gotten a chance to play this year.  Dwyer has played in 2 games for the Steelers so far this year and he has carried the ball 13 times for 115 yards (8.8 ypc).  Dwyer also has 1 catch for six yards this year.  Mewelde Moore has played in four games this year and he has carried the ball 6 times for 43 yards (7.2 ypc) and he has also caught 4 passes for 61 yards (15.3 avg) this year.  The Steelers need to keep running the ball well to slow down the opposing pass rush.  They are averaging 122.3 yards rushing so far this year and they are averaging 4.6 yards per carry

Ben Roethlisberger is starting to turn the corner for the Pittsburgh Steelers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Wednesday 12 October 2011 at 7:46 pm

29-year old QB Ben Roethlisberger was outstanding against the Titans and it caused his overall numbers to take a nice spike upwards.  He has played in all 5 games for the Steelers so far this year and he has completed 109 of 172 passes (63.4%) for 1,376 yards with 8 TD passes and 6 INTs (89.2 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 13 times for 43 yards (3.3 ypc) so far this year.  If Roethlisberger continues to protect the foobtall like he did against the Titans last Sunday, the Steelers’ offense might be ready to truly take off.

Daniel Sepulveda was a bright spot in the season opener for the Pittsburgh Steelers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Thursday 15 September 2011 at 12:29 pm

There wasn’t much positive going on for the Steelers against the Ravens last Sunday in Baltimore.  But, 27-year old punter Daniel Sepulveda was a bright spot.  He punted the ball 4 times for 211 yards (52.8 avg) against the Ravens.  He had 1 touchback but he pinned the Ravens inside their own 20-yard line twice and that is impressive.  Sepulveda has now played in 45 games in his first five years with the Steelers and he has punted the ball 200 times for 8,715 yards (43.6 avg).  He also has 15 touchbacks (7.5%) and he has placed 75 punts (37.5%) inside the opposing 20-yard line.  The Steelers hope that Sepulveda keeps up the good work.
