The Pittsburgh Steelers place Andre Frazier on I.R.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Injury Reports, General by admin on Thursday 12 August 2010 at 7:51 pm

The Steelers have placed 28-year old OLB Andre Frazier on Injured Reserve due to a knee problem ending his season.  Frazier played in 14 games for the Steelers last season and he had 13 tackles.  He has played in 48 games in four years for the Steelers and he has 41 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 forced fumble.  This is not a big loss for the Steelers as Frazier’s main role was on special teams.

The Pittsburgh Steelers lose Willie Colon for the year

The Steelers have lost starting OT Willie Colon for the 2010 season.  He tore his ACL at practice earlier today and he will soon have surgery to repair it.  The 27-year old Colon played in 16 games (all starts) for the Steelers last season.  In his four years with the Steelers he has played in 50 games (all starts).  This is a huge blow to the Steelers’ offense as Colon was the best lineman on their team last season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers pick OG/OT Chris Scott in the 5th round

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Draft Report, Front Page, Injury Reports, General by admin on Tuesday 11 May 2010 at 1:04 pm

The Steelers have picked G/T Chris Scott with the 151st overall pick (5th round) of the NFL Draft.  Scott is a giant at 6′4″, 328 pounds but he’s really slow (5.5 40).  Scott is versatile as he has started at every position on the O-Line in his time at Tennessee.  Scott played in 13 games (all starts) for the Volunteers last season and he played in 52 games (39 starts) in his four years with them.  The Steelers need help on the O-Line and Scott looks like a decent prospect so this was a good pick for them.

UPDATE:  (6/30/2010) - Chris Scott has underwent surgery to repair a fractured foot.  He will be out until at least October.  This is another blow to the O-Line of the Steelers who have already lost Willie Colon for the year.

The Pittsburgh Steelers lose WR Limas Sweed for likely the whole 2010 season

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Injury Reports, General by admin on Monday 3 May 2010 at 6:26 pm

25-year old WR Limas Sweed had surgery today to repair his Achilles tendon while he tore in mini-camp last weekend.  Sweed played in 9 games last season and he caught 1 pass for 5 yards.  He has played in 20 games in his two years with the Steelers and he has caught 7 passes for 69 yards (9.9 avg).  Sweed has been a huge disappointment for the Steelers but he might have been lucky that he got hurt because he will at least get paid for 2010.  I was thinking that he was going to be cut for sure at some point in training camp.  The Steelers won’t miss Sweed at all as he looks like a bust.

The Pittsburgh Steelers lose Keenan Lewis for the year

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Draft Report, Front Page, Injury Reports, General by admin on Friday 1 January 2010 at 9:09 am

The Steelers have placed 23-year old cornerback Keenan Lewis on the Injured Reserve List with a back injury ending his season.  Lewis played in 4 games this season and he made 1 tackle.  Lewis was picked in the 3rd round last April out of Oregon State.  The Steelers can’t afford to miss like this in the draft.  The Steelers’ corners have 0 INTs this season and Lewis still couldn’t break into the line-up even as a dime back when he was healthy.  That really speaks volumes about what the Steelers think about Lewis.
