The Pittsburgh Steelers release OT Flozell Adams

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Saturday 30 July 2011 at 1:49 pm

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released 36-year old OT Flozell Adams.  Adams played in 16 games (all starts) for the Steelers last year.  He has played in 198 games (194 starts) in his first 13 years in the NFL.  The Steelers released Adams after he refused to restructure his contract.  The Steelers better sign some offensive linemen in free agency or Ben Roethlisberger is going to look like a pinata in 2011.

The Pittsburgh Steelers re-sign OT Willie Colon

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Weeks Breaking News by admin on Friday 29 July 2011 at 9:26 pm

The Steelers have re-signed 29-year old OT Willie Colon to a 5-year, $29 million dollar deal.  Colon played in 16 games (all starts) for the Steelers last year.  He has played in 50 games (all starts) in his first five years with the Steelers.  This was a good move for the Steelers as they had a lot of competition for Colon’s services on the free agent market.  The Steelers still need to do more in free agency to help the offensive line for 2011.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released WR Antwaan Randle El

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Thursday 28 July 2011 at 10:50 pm

The Steelers have released 31-year old WR Antwaan Randle El.  Randle El played in all 16 games for the Steelers last year and he caught 22 passes for 253 yards (11.5 avg).  He also carried the ball 1 time for 2 yards for the Steelers last year.  Randle El also returned 4 punts for 56 yards (14.0 avg) and he also completed both of his pass attempts for 39 yards….and they both went for TDs.  Randle El has played in 80 games (23 starts) in his five years with the Steelers and he caught 184 passes for 2,265 yards (12.3 avg) with 7 TD grabs.  He has carried the ball 55 times for 318 yards (5.8 ypc) for the Steelers.  Randle El returned 182 punts for 1,650 yards (9.1 avg) with 4 TD returns and he also returned 78 kickoffs for 1,742 yards (22.3 avg) with 1 TD return.  Randle El was at his best with the Steelers on trick plays featuring him passing the ball.  Randle El completed 16 of 18 passes (88.9%) for 170 yards with 4 TD passes and 0 INTs (145.6 QB Rating) for the Steelers.  The Steelers should be o.k. without Randle El as they have a lot of good young receivers on the roster.

The Pittsburgh Steelers release OT Max Starks

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Thursday 28 July 2011 at 10:43 pm

The Steelers have released 29-year old OT Max Starks.  Starks played in 7 games (all starts) for the Steelers last year.  He played in 95 games (68 starts) in his 7 years with the Steelers.  The Steelers had offensive line issues last year as a result of injuries.  Starks came to camp in horrible shape, so the Steelers decided to let him go.

The Pittsburgh Steelers re-sign kicker Shaun Suisham

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Weeks Breaking News by admin on Thursday 28 July 2011 at 6:33 pm

The Steelers have re-signed 29-year old kicker Shaun Suisham.  Suisham played in 7 games for the Steelers last year and he made 14 of 15 field goals (93.3%) and he also connected on all 19 of his extra point attempts as he scored 61 points for the Steelers last year.  Suisham has played in 64 games in his first six years in the NFL and he has made 101 of 125 field goals (80.8%).  He has also made 120 of 122 extra points as he has scored 423 points in his NFL career so far.  Suisham had by far his best year in the NFL last season so the Steelers need to have someone on speed dial just in case he reverts back to his old form.

The Pittsburgh Steelers re-sign CB Ike Taylor

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Weeks Breaking News by admin on Wednesday 27 July 2011 at 2:27 pm

The Steelers have re-signed 30-year old cornerback Ike Taylor to a 4-year deal.  Taylor was the top priority for the Steelers in free agency.  Taylor played in all 16 games for the Steelers last year and he had 66 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 2 interceptions and he defensed 11 passes.  Taylor has now played in 125 games in his first 8 years with the Steelers and he has 481 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries, 11 interceptions (1 returned for a TD) and he has defensed 103 passes.  At least now the Steelers can feel pretty good about half the field when an opposing QB drops back to pass.

Franco Harris is an icon for the Pittsburgh Steelers

RB Franco Harris is a icon in Pittsburgh.  If you go into the Pittsburgh Airport it’s very hard to miss the statue of the Immaculate Reception.  Harris was also inducted into Pro Football’s Hall of Fame in 1990.  Harris played in 165 games in his 12 years with the Steelers and he carried the ball 2,881 times for 11,950 yards (4.1 ypc) with 91 TD runs.  He also caught 306 passes for 2,284 yards (7.5 avg) with 9 TD grabs.  Harris’ time to shine came in the Steelers’ first Super Bowl win.  He was the MVP of Super Bowl IX in which the Steelers beat the Vikings 16-6.  He carried the ball 34 times for 158 yards (4.6 ypc) with 1 TD run in Super Bowl IX.  Harris made it to the Pro Bowl in his first 9 years with the Steelers.  He rushed for at least 1,000 yards in a year 8 times with the Steelers and he also had 5 years in which he rushed for at last 10 TDs.  Harris is the Steelers’ all-time rushing leader with 11,950 yards and he’s also the all-time leader in franchise history in TD runs with 91 of them.  Harris is also #6 in receptions (306) and #20 in Steelers’ history in receiving yards with 2,284.  Harris is and will always be, one of the best players in Pittsburgh Steelers’ history.
