Nate Washington leaves the Steelers to sign with the Titans as a free agent
The Steelers have lost 25-year old WR Nate Washington to the Titans through free agency. Washington played in all 16 games for the Steelers last season and he caught 40 passes for 631 yards (15.8 avg) with 3 TD grabs. He also carried the ball 5 times for 18 yards (3.6 ypc). Washington was an improving player who eventually would have replaced the aging Hines Ward in the starting lineup had he stayed in Pittsburgh. But, the money (6 years, $27 million) and the chance to start in 2009 for the Titans was way too hard for him to pass up. Look for the Steelers to draft another wide receiver in this April’s Draft to push the underachieving Limas Sweed to replace Washington as the #3 WR on the team. Washington finished his career in Pittsburgh playing in 48 games in which he caught 104 passes for 1,705 yards (16.4 avg) with 12 TD grabs. He also carried the ball 9 times for 26 yards (2.9 ypc).
