The Steelers have claimed Marquis Cooper off of waivers from the Seahawks.  He played in 4 games last season in Seattle and he only made 1 tackle.  Cooper has now played three seasons in the NFL and he has played in 30 games and made 28 tackles.  He is very undersized (6’3″, 213 pounds) to play much defense for the Steelers but he could help them out on special teams.

I just checked out NBC’s SNF site, www.sundaynightisfootballnight.com, and they have a ton of cool stuff. Wallpaper, widgets, multimedia. You can look at PBurg food, and facts about Big Ben. They also have Madden, Michaels and Collinsworth talking about the Steelers match ups. You should go see it, because the site is great!

The Pittsburgh Steelers are loaded at running back

The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to be three deep in starting caliber running backs when the 2007 football season starts.  Willie Parker will be the main man again because of his speed.  He can score from anywhere on the field but his slight build causes him to lose some carries in the red zone and in short yardage situations.  He also has to learn how to run better on the road as he often disappears when he’s not playing at Heinz Field.  Parker played in all 16 games last season and he carried the ball 337 times for 1,494 yards (4.4 ypc) with 13 TD runs.  Parker also caught 31 passes for 222 yards (7.2 avg) with 3 TD grabs last season.  Parker has come a long way for the Steelers as he was an undrafed free agent when he first appeared in Steelers’ camp a few years ago.  He has played in 39 games (31 starts) in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 624 times for 2,882 yards (4.6 ypc) with 17 TD runs.  He also has caught 52 passes for 456 yards (8.8 avg) with 4 TD grabs.

Najeh Davenport is a big (6’1″, 247 pounds) running back who plays the power game.  He would rather run you over than juke you.  Davenport played in 13 games (0 starts) last season for the Steelers and he carried the ball 60 times for 221 yards (3.7 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He also caught 15 passes for 193 yards (12.9 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Davenport also returned 21 kickoffs for 448 yards (21.3 avg).  Davenport has always been the second fiddle on teams as he never has been the main man.  He has played in 52 games (2 starts) in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 277 times for 1,289 yards (4.7 ypc) with 8 TD runs.  He also has caught 32 passes for 300 yards (9.4 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Davenport also has been a decent kickoff returner during his NFL career.  He has returned 67 kickoffs for 1,558 yards (23.3 avg).

Kevan Barlow is returning to Pittsburgh where he was a star for the Panthers in college.  Barlow is trying to rejuvenate his career after a very rough 2006 season with the Jets.  Barlow played in 12 games (3 starts) for the Jets last season and he carried the ball 131 times for 370 yards (2.8 ypc) with 6 TD runs.  Barlow also caught 7 passes for 21 yards (3.0 avg).  Barlow has been productive for most of his NFL career to date.  He has played in 84 games (33 starts) and he has carried the ball 1,022 times for 3,984 yards (3.9 ypc) with 30 TD runs.  Barlow has also caught 144 passes for 1,164 yards (8.1 avg) with 3 TD grabs.

Verron Haynes will have an uphill battle making the Steelers roster.  Haynes is still recovering from knee surgery that he had last season which will make things even harder on him.  Haynes played in 7 games (0 starts) last season for the Steelers and he carried the ball 15 times for 78 yards (5.2 ypc) with 0 TD runs.  He also caught 18 passes for 95 yards (5.3 avg) with 0 TD grabs.  Haynes has always been a backup running back and that will not change in the future.  He has played in 60 games (0 starts) and he has carried the ball 174 times for 738 yards (4.2 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  He also has caught 57 passes for 417 yards (7.3 avg) with 2 TD grabs.
