The Steelers traded up to select punter Daniel Sepulveda who they felt was the best punter in this draft.  Sepulveda is a left footed punter that really has a strong leg.  His kicks boom and have good hang time but he sometimes outkicks his coverage.  Sepulveda is also an outstanding athlete as he’s a 6′2″, 223 pound punter that runs a 4.49 40.  Look for him to make some tackles if a returner gets to him.  In 46 games at Baylor, Sepulveda punted the ball 277 times for 12,531 yards (45.2 avg) and his long punt was an amazing 78 yards!  He also pinned the opposing team inside their 20 yard line 88 times (31.8%).  He had problems with blocks early in his career as he had 3 blocked punts in his first two seasons, but he looks to have fixed that problem.

The Pittsburgh Steelers re-sign Verron Haynes

The Steelers have re-signed Verron Haynes to a 1-year contract.  He is still recovering from the ACL surgery he had last season.  Haynes is now the #4 back on the Steelers if he is healthy.  The Steelers wanted to make Haynes a third down back last season but he’s not that good of a receiver.  He only played in 7 games last season and he carried the ball 15 times for 78 yards (5.2 avg) and he caught 18 passes for 95 yards (5.3 avg).  Haynes will add depth to the Steelers but it’s hard to envision him getting much playing time behind Willie Parker, Kevan Barlow and Najeh Davenport.  Nothing over his career would suggest he could beat out any one of those guys.  Over his 5 year career, Haynes has played in 60 games and he’s carried the ball 174 times for 738 yards (4.2 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  He also has caught 57 passes for 417 yards (7.3 avg) with 2 TD grabs.
