The Pittsburgh Steelers re-sign Verron Haynes
The Steelers have re-signed Verron Haynes to a 1-year contract. He is still recovering from the ACL surgery he had last season. Haynes is now the #4 back on the Steelers if he is healthy. The Steelers wanted to make Haynes a third down back last season but he’s not that good of a receiver. He only played in 7 games last season and he carried the ball 15 times for 78 yards (5.2 avg) and he caught 18 passes for 95 yards (5.3 avg). Haynes will add depth to the Steelers but it’s hard to envision him getting much playing time behind Willie Parker, Kevan Barlow and Najeh Davenport. Nothing over his career would suggest he could beat out any one of those guys. Over his 5 year career, Haynes has played in 60 games and he’s carried the ball 174 times for 738 yards (4.2 ypc) with 3 TD runs. He also has caught 57 passes for 417 yards (7.3 avg) with 2 TD grabs.
