Gary Russell only played one season of college football because of academic problems.  That year was 2005 for the Minnesota Golden Gophers and he did a good job for them.  He carried the football 186 times for 1,130 yards (6.1 ypc) with 18 TD runs.  He also caught 16 passes for 168 yards (10.5 avg) with a TD catch.  Russell is more of a power back as he’s not very elusive or overly fast (4.6 40).  He definately will have a good chance to make the Steelers as long as he’s smart enough to learn the playbook.
