The Pittsburgh Steelers re-sign safety Tyrone Carter

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Monday 26 March 2007 at 11:09 pm

The Steelers have given Tyrone Carter a new 3-year contract.  Carter played in all 16 games for the Steelers last season and he made 42 tackles, had 2 sacks, defensed 2 passes, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.  Look for Carter to force his way into the starting lineup at some point over his new contract.

Steelers Draft!!

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by steelerfan77 on Sunday 25 March 2007 at 7:21 am

During this years draft we all know that the steelers have wholes on bothe sifes of the ball that they need to fill. There are many ways that they could do this.

I think that during the draft the steelers should first trade down in the draft. to a team like detroit, houston, or arizona and try to trade them alan faneca for that teams first round pick. then i think with that pick we should draft Joe thomas the ofensive lineman out of wisconson. Then i think with are 15th pick in the draft we should draft one of these 5– Greg Olsen TE Miami  -Paul Poslunsky LB PennState  -Darelle Revis CB Pitt- Jarvis Moss DE Flordia-Ryan Kalil C USC.

The Pittsburgh Steelers re-sign CB Chide Iwuoma

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Sunday 18 March 2007 at 6:04 pm

This was not a big move by the Steelers as Iwuoma isn’t much of a player.  He participated in 5 games for the Steelers last season and made 4 tackles.  He won’t play much for the Steelers in 2007 and if he does they will be in trouble.

The Steelers sign OL Sean Mahan

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page by dawgpounded on Saturday 10 March 2007 at 11:51 pm

The Steelers have signed OL Sean Mahan to a 5 year, $18 million dollar contract.  Mahan was a guard most of his career but the Steelers will likely use him at center.  Mahan played in all 16 games last season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2006 and he started 12 games for them.  This was a good move for the Steelers.

The Steelers re-sign Najeh Davenport

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Friday 2 March 2007 at 2:20 am

The Steelers have re-signed Najeh Davenport to a 2-year, $2 million dollar contract.  He played well behind Willie Parker last season.  He played in 13 games last season and he carried the ball 60 times for 221 yards (3.7 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He also caught 15 passes for 193 yards (12.9 avg) with 1 TD catch.  Look for Davenport to get more opportunities with the football to keep Willie Parker fresh next season.

The Steelers cut LB Joey Porter

This is a surprising move, but the Steelers had to do it because they were right up against the salary cap.  Porter played in 14 games last season and he made 55 tackles, sacked the QB 7 times, had 2 interceptions (one he returned for a TD) and he defensed 3 passes.  Even more important than his play on the field was his ability to fire up his teammates and intimidate the opposing team.  Porter played in 122 games in his 8 years in Pittsburgh and he made 461 tackles, sacked the opposing QB 60 times, intercepted 10 passes, defensed 33 passes, forced 18 fumbles and recovered 8 fumbles.  This is a loss that will hurt the Steelers on and off the field just like last season when Jerome Bettis wasn’t around.

James Harrison will start in Porter’s place next season for the Steelers.  He played in 11 games last season and made 20 tackles.  He has played in 44 games with the Steelers and he has made 110 tackles, intercepted 1 pass, defensed 5 passes, forced 1 fumble and recovered 2 fumbles.  His best play ever was on December 24th, 2005 in Cleveland when he tackled a drunk fan!  He’ll find NFL running backs much harder to deal with next season.

The Steelers release RB Verron Haynes

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Thursday 1 March 2007 at 10:36 pm

The Steelers tried using Verron Haynes as their 3rd down back last season and it just didn’t work out.  He then missed the last 9 games due to an injury.  Haynes played in 7 games last season and he carried the ball 15 times for 78 yards (5.2 ypc) and he caught 18 passes for 95 yards (5.3 avg).  The Steelers will have no problem replacing Haynes.
